On a recent Friday afternoon, Hnedak Bobo Group team members were huddled in the company’s basement at 104 S. Front St.

The firm’s employees were busily sorting a wide range of architectural and building materials, everything from tiles and laminate to wall covering and carpet.

Projects by Three U of Arkansas Architecture Students Win 7th Annual HBG Design Competition

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Three University of Arkansas students in the Fay Jones School of Architecture created the three winning designs chosen from among 16 entries in the seventh annual Hnedak Bobo International Design Competition. The competition recognizes work done from international locales during the Fay Jones School’s study abroad programs.

Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino: Buffalo’s “Harbor Master” project featured in Casino Design magazine

The Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino in Buffalo, New York completed its final phase in August, a keystone in revitalizing Buffalo’s Inner Harbor area. Reviving this underused industrial property was a special interest for the Seneca Nation, which has historical ties to this land.

In 1979, architects predicted the oil embargo of 1973 and ensuing energy crisis would be the “greatest molder of architectural style since the pyramids.” When energy became affordable again in the 1980s, people lost focus on the groundbreaking energy-saving design work that was just gaining traction.

Now, with current interest in climate change and sustainability, those architectural ideals have come full circle.

“SustainDeidre_1ability has just become part and parcel of how we do business,” says Deidre Brady, an interior designer with Hnedak Bobo Group Inc. Like the Memphis Business Journal, the architecture firm began in 1979.

Seneca Buffalo Creek receives 2014 ENR Merit Award

Seneca Resorts & Casinos is proud to announce the Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino has been selected for a 2014 Engineering News Record “Best Projects” Merit Award in the “Sports/Entertainment” category. The $130 million casino project was recognized with the Merit Award in a strong field of competitors that included, among its winners, prestigious projects such as the Madison Square Garden Transformation Project, 4 World Trade Center, Statue of Liberty and the Bill & Melinda Gates Hall.

Intern Insights: Katie – “What’s so refreshing about HBG is how appreciative everyone is of the work we create.”

interns-katiecostaFor starters, I would like to thank everyone at HBG for such a wonderful summer. Everyone was so incredibly welcoming and really made Memphis feel like home! Coming from the University of Cincinnati, where our program alternates between semesters of school and work, I definitely had some experience in moving to new places. I did not, however, have any prior knowledge of the geography that lies below the Mason-Dixon line.

I stuffed my car with all of my belongings (plus Riya’s, who also interned at HBG this summer!) and made the twelve-hour drive. If the south is one big, hospitable family, Memphis is your cool older cousin. While turning twenty-one this summer probably (read: absolutely) contributed to my embracing of everything Memphis, I found myself falling more and more in love with this city’s fun attitude; an attitude you would expect from large cities but on a much smaller, more manageable scale.
