Soaring future: One Beale design embraces ‘tension’ between old, new

The towers that soar highest in the Memphis skyline share at least one characteristic: Materials other than glass dominate their skin. And old-fashion brick prevails among the historic understory buildings throughout Downtown. All of which means that the glassy One Beale towers will stick out in more ways than one on the south edge of Downtown’s high-rise core, like some transparent bookend.

Summer Intern Paul Bamson: “HBG helped me challenge my design thinking.”

PaulBamsonIntern2015As a 5th year architecture student at The University of Tennessee, I was nervous, but excited to begin my internship search and explore potential career opportunities. After my first phone interview with HBG’s Recruiter, Allison Graham, I had a Skype interview with some of HBG’s lead designers, Rob Lee, Craig Conrad and Thor Harland. Based on this meeting, I was ready to spend my summer at HBG; I just hoped they felt the same. (more…)
