UTHSC’s new, $39M research center equipped to attract nation’s best

The University of Tennessee Health Science Center is touting its newest building as a magnet for the country’s top researchers.

The Translational Science Research Building, standing four-stories above the corner of Union and Manassas, is a state-of-the-art facility where researchers will study new treatments for health concerns like cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, stroke and mental health.

Opening date set for the Guest House at Graceland

While it won’t be open in time for Elvis Week 2016, the Guest House at Graceland now has a target opening date.

The 450-room hotel, which is currently under construction along Elvis PresleyBoulevard, will open in October 2016, with a grand opening celebration scheduled for Oct. 27-30. (more…)

HBG Excited about Redevelopment in Memphis

Local architecture firms note it isn’t about the scale of the project, but the number of projects coming across the table since the economy has increased following the 2008 financial crisis.

Across the board, firms are seeing more multifamily projects — an indicator of the health of multifamily and residential real estate. As home values depreciated, more people opted to rent rather than buy, says Joey Hagan, Architecture Inc. principal, resulting in the burgeoning apartment market.

Kirk Bobo, Hnedak Bobo Group Inc. managing principal, says multifamily is a great use for the redevelopment work taking place in neighborhoods across the city as it creates density and helps the tax base.

Hnedak Bobo Group Going Green

The firm’s employees were busily sorting a wide range of architectural and building materials, everything from tiles and laminate to wall covering and carpet.

Hnedak Bobo Plans a Sustainable Blueprint for a Green Footprint

Memphis architecture firm, Hnedak Bobo Group (HBG) just completed interior design work on an office building on International Place in East Memphis, which is a LEED-registered project. HBG designed the 9-story, 225,000 square feet building’s interior to be as green as possible, focusing on several green design aspects, including maximizing the use of natural light and selecting products that are manufactured from sustainable resources and that contribute to healthy indoor environments.
