Elevate Your Design Experience

At HBG Design, we foster a design culture where creativity and exploration of design is paramount to who we are. We love design – it is our passion. “Out of the box” thinking is encouraged and good design is celebrated every day. Our designers focus their passions in a collaborative, open studio environment that promotes engagement, generates synergy across teams and positively impacts our project designs through the creation of distinctive design solutions.

A testimony to our focus on design excellence, we’re honored to have projects recognized by over 200 design and industry awards and to be featured regularly in national industry and trade publications.

HBG Design’s ‘Inspiration Team’. Created to lead, inspire, promote and innovate all aspects of design at HBG Design, this team of designers host firm-wide inspiration forums, monthly design-focused film features, a quarterly, theme-based ‘Design Inspiration Wall’, and an annual ‘Art on the Walls’ exhibit of employee art and photography.

HBGreen Design Group. We incorporate our environmental responsibility by implementing sustainably appropriate solutions in original and strategic ways. Hosted by our HBGreen Design Group, HBG Design’s LEED accredited professionals offer sustainable design education programs and monthly ‘brown bag’ forums to ensure sustainability is continuously at the forefront of design across all markets where we work.

GOH Travel Scholarship. Through our recently introduced Gregory O. Hnedak Competitive Travel Scholarship program (GOH Travel), we award an annual grant to an HBG Design employee who expresses a special desire to elevate their professional and personal development through a specific travel experience. Award winners travel abroad over a two week time period, then share their travel experiences internally and externally in an effort to expand our views on design and the world. The award is named in honor of our co-founder Greg Hnedak, who retired from the firm in 2014.

HBG Design International Design Competitions. As a firm, we have made a commitment to helping prepare the next generation of architects through enrichment experiences for emerging design talent. We are long-time supporters of two competitive scholarship award programs hosted at the University of Tennessee (UT) and the University of Arkansas (UA). The HBG Design International Design Competition at UA, and the HBG Design Global Design Scholarship Award at UT. Both programs support professional and personal growth through travel abroad. Together with college faculty, HBG Design’s design teams play a critical role in selecting the annual winners of the awards through participation on the jury panels for each University. The jury experience allows our designers to maintain interaction with some of the region’s leading architecture programs on a regular basis, and encourages on-going dialogue with students focused on high-level conceptual design.
